Want to know how to conquer your goals?
If so, one trait trumps all others that you need to master: A bulletproof mindset. Studies show the necessity of a powerful mindset in achieving your desired outcomes in life. Your mindset determines the quality of your health, finances, business, relationships, etc.
Imagine your ideal vision of life…
You’re fit and in shape, business is doing well, you have a happy marriage, and everything just fits in its proper place. All of it is the result of mindset—a bulletproof mindset. And in this article, I’ll give you 7 simple strategies for how to develop it.

1. Engage In Calculated Hardships
The world is a comfortable place today.
Food delivery apps summon delicious meals at the touch of a button. Streaming services provide endless entertainment 24/7. Smartphones give you constant access to the world’s information right in your pocket.
Life has never been so easy…
And it’s not just technology, either… Society as a whole has become softer. With trigger warnings, safe spaces, and microaggressions, people are so sensitive (mentally speaking) that they can’t handle the slightest inkling of discomfort.
The truth: We all could stand to toughen up through what I refer to as Calculated Hardships.
A Calculated Hardship is an inconvenient or challenging activity that is deliberately done every day. And it’s the most practical way to build a bulletproof mindset in your life. Here are a few examples of Calculated Hardships to get your gears turning:
- Jump in a cold shower
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
- Walk 10,000 steps
- Read 10 to 20 pages of a non-fiction book
- Start a conversation with a complete stranger
- Wake up early
Keep in mind that these challenges are daily activities. The whole point of Calculated Hardships is that they are done every day to build the ironclad resilience that comes with a bulletproof mindset.
You don’t get there by doing one hard thing one day; you get it by doing many difficult tasks every single day over a prolonged period of time.
2. Attempt The 100-Day Challenge
I know a powerful way for you to build a bulletproof mindset.
It’s not camping alone in the wilderness…
It’s not cageless shark diving…
And it’s not free solo rock climbing.
If you’re interested in those activities, all the more power to you. But what I’m talking about is far more straightforward (and way less fraught with unnecessary danger).
It’s The 100-Day Challenge…
I’ve discussed this concept numerous times before, but I haven’t been as vocal about it lately. The 100-Day Challenge is about endurance as much as it is mental fortitude, making it a powerful tactic.
Here’s how it works:
- Create a list of disciplines you’d like to adopt (you can adopt as many as you like, but make sure that you can commit to them for a full 100 consecutive days).
- Break out your journal and write them all down (this is a great opportunity to start journaling if you’re not already), and list the date at the top.
- Use your journal to track your progress throughout the 100 days to hold yourself accountable.
This simple practice is a methodical way to cultivate a bulletproof mindset.
It keeps you accountable to your word. This tactic will work even better if you share what you’re doing with someone while also implementing it.
3. Take A Leap Of Faith
In early 2023, I took the biggest leap of faith in my life…
I sold my possessions, found someone to take over my apartment lease, and gave up my old, comfy life to travel across the world to train martial arts in Southeast Asia. My goal was to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from World-Champion martial artists at Asia’s premier combat sports organization, Evolve MMA, located in Singapore.
I gave up everything for this ambition…
While the story is much longer (and way more complex) than what I’ve revealed here, it was by far the most daring thing I’ve ever done. And guess what? The process hardened me, significantly contributing to the development of my own bulletproof mindset.
Is there a big ambition in your life you’ve been aching to pull the trigger on?
Most people have something gnawing at them that they’d like to do. However, they usually allow their rationalizations to get in their way. To develop a bulletproof mindset, you need to shake things up and experience a little chaos from time to time.
4. Face And Conquer A Fear
Your mental fortitude will develop in direct proportion to the degree you step outside of your comfort zone and face your fears.
The good news is you don’t have to plunge into every hang-up or phobia you have.
In fact, that’s a perfect way to overwhelm yourself. Instead, you need to (like anything else in life) start with one thing at a time and attack it bit by bit. This is the process many psychologists use to help their clients overcome fears and phobias.
It’s called exposure therapy.
And it’s a proven psychological tactic that helps people face and conquer their fears in a systematic way. If you want a bulletproof mindset, this strategy can be an effective means to that end.
5. Protect Your Mind
What has billions of neurons, over 1 quadrillion connections (that’s 1000 trillions) between those neurons, and operates on 20 watts of power?
Answer: Your mind…
That little 3 lb mass in between your ears is your most valuable asset. It controls everything you do, are, and have in ways that are difficult to describe and understand. With all that your mind does for you, don’t you think it’s worth protecting?
Glad you agree!
But how do you guard your mind? You start by watching what you pour into it. The content you consume, the books you read, the ideas you entertain, and even the people you surround yourself with all play crucial roles in developing a bulletproof mindset.
So, the first step is to be mindful of what you allow to infiltrate your thinking.
The second step is to be deliberate in filling your mind with ideas, beliefs, and stories that empower you. Most people’s minds are occupied with poor narratives that restrict and limit their abilities.
Surmounting that tendency requires guarding your mind.
6. Let It Go
Someone cuts you off in traffic…
A waiter gets your order wrong…
You experience a tech glitch like failed Wi-Fi…
Innocuous situations such as these can often bring out the worst in some people.
But here’s a secret “hack” that can help. This single tactic, which I’m about to reveal, will give you perspective and allow you to rise above these everyday nuisances.
Are you ready? Here it is…
Let. It. Go.
You can easily turn a lousy situation into a terrible one just by deciding to react poorly to it. And the consequences of that reaction are almost never worth it. So, when someone or something hits a nerve…
Stop. Breathe. And then let it go.
Over time, this slow-paced and controlled response will create a bulletproof mindset that can give you a level of imperturbability on par with the stoics.
7. Honor Your Commitments
I talk about this a lot, and for good reason…
Few things are more important in this world than your own personal integrity. Unfortunately, this idea tends to get a lot of lip service these days. People talk about the importance of integrity because it looks and sounds good on paper.
But living it out in real life is a different story.
Do you do what you say you’re going to do when you say you will do it? Honoring your commitment—big or small—in this way is the litmus test of your degree of personal integrity. Keeping your word is a reflection of the quality of your character.
It’s all about doing what is right for you and others.
Developing a bulletproof mindset will come as a natural byproduct of doing the right thing consistently, even when no one’s looking (especially when no one’s looking).
Conclusion
These 7 effective strategies will help you develop the bulletproof mindset you need to own your goals and direction in life. Implement them in your daily routine, and you’ll be astonished at the effect they can have. The only caveat here is that you need to practice these activities consistently to see results.
Think about it… You won’t become healthy and fit after working out once or twice. It takes years of dedicated effort. The same is true with these practices; you need to discipline yourself. And that’s why I wrote a book to help you on your path to developing a bulletproof mindset.
And remember, stay motivated and disciplined.
Peace.
