The Boring Character Trait That Got Me Hired as a Copywriter for Dan Martell

As of this writing, I’ve been a copywriter for Dan Martell for 7 months.

While there were many traits that helped me land this position, there was ONE that stands out to me as the most powerful (but boring) quality… Consistency. And guess what? This is the same quality that will help YOU capitalize on opportunities in your life as well.

Here’s why consistency is your secret weapon.

Building Consistency by Putting in Reps

2024 was one of the most difficult times of my life.

I was living in my brother’s spare bedroom sleeping on an air mattress (I made some questionable life decisions that I was paying the price for—you can read about it here, if you’re so inclined). It sucked because I KNEW I could be doing so much better.

I was an unforged blade.

The potential was there. I just hadn’t been grinded and hammered enough for that potential to take shape yet. So I decided to start that process… I had to retool my skill set. Fast. The skill in question? Copywriting.

So I went to work and started:

  • Taking courses
  • Read books (some of them multiple times)
  • Rewriting winning ads, sales letters, and email campaigns

But I didn’t stop there…

I studied marketing, psychology, persuasion, rhetoric, public speaking, etc., dissecting the elements of effective and persuasive communication. Every day, I was getting prepared.

I was putting in the reps.

18 Months to Create a New Life

I’m not a fan of cliches… they’re corny and unoriginal.

But here’s the thing: Cliches are cliches for a reason. They share undeniable truths and important life lessons that apply to everyone. And the old saying, “Success is when preparation meets opportunity” is one cliche that applies here.

After 18 months of consistent daily action to improving my skill set, everything in my life was about to shift in a big and unexpected way.

I got noticed by the team of Martell Media. Yes, Dan Martell’s team in Kelowna, B.C.

And after numerous rounds of interviews and test projects stretching on for a month… I got the job as a copywriter for Dan Martell. As a result? They moved me from Calgary AB to Kelowna BC to work in-studio with the rest of the team.

A new job. A new city. And a new life.

The Bottom Line

On the back of every success story is a process that led to that outcome.

For this reason, you need to look for the process that’s aligned with your goal once you commit to it. And then you need to bake consistency into that process. Showing up daily for long periods of time (engaging in process) is what makes winning inevitable.

And my story is proof of that.

Now, start the process toward your own goals. And remember… Once you begin, stay Motivated And Disciplined.
