Did you know that a morning routine makes you more productive, lowers your stress levels, and puts you in the driver’s seat of your day? It’s true. And one of the most powerful habits that you can engage in after waking up is a morning exercise ritual.
Mornings are sacred. They set the tone for your entire day. And exercising first thing in the morning allows you to get in the proper headspace prior to engaging the world around you.
As a result, you’ll be more efficient in your work, and more effective when dealing with others.
But that’s just the beginning of how working out in the morning can improve your daily experience. Keep reading to learn the 5 ways that morning exercise can change your life.
1. You’ll Be Happier

Exercise releases endorphins in your brain. This allows you to feel happy, content, and more cheerful. Additionally, exercise also helps to lower anxiety, reduce stress, and put you in a more carefree and positive state of mind.
Can you imagine starting each day off like this?
The quality of your daily experiences will improve tenfold. This is how a morning exercise routine can help you live a happier life.
And all it takes is 20 to 30 minutes each morning to gain these (as well as many other) benefits. And if you live too far from a gym, don’t sweat it…
You can still take advantage of these benefits with at-home workouts. There are countless YouTube videos that show you how to workout in the comfort of your own home — without any equipment.
2. You’ll Develop Greater Self-Discipline

If your struggle with self-discipline, a morning exercise routine is a perfect ritual to build that muscle. Why? Because exercise is known as a keystone habit. In his book The Power of Habit, Charles Duhigg describes a keystone habit as any behavior that sets the precedent for other similar habits to follow.
Here’s an example from my own life so you can get a better understanding of this principle in action.
I began reading every day in July 2017. It started off as me just wanting to improve an area of my life, which resulted in me devouring books on the topic. However, this quickly turned into a habit that changed everything for me.
Over time, this habit spread out into other facets of my life. I began keeping a journal, I started waking up earlier (even on weekends), and consistent exercise and healthy eating became staples in my routine, etc.
All of this happened because of the simple keystone habit of daily reading. And so it is with exercise.
Even a short 5 minute home workout routine is enough to get you started. Remember, that when you’re starting out in anything — consistency is more important than intensity.
Consequently, when you exercise daily, you will notice self-discipline building up in other areas of your life. Naturally, you’ll begin reading more, waking up earlier, eating healthier, etc, all as a byproduct of consistent exercise.
3. You’ll Look Better

A morning exercise routine can transform your body in many ways. Aside from toning you up, building muscle, and reducing fat, exercise can also affect your skin!
As you move your body through physical exercise, minute arteries within your skin open themselves up. Consequently, this increases blood flow to the surface of the skin; delivering restorative bodily nutrients that aid in repairing a damaged skin complexion.
As a result, you’ll take on a more youthful appearance as these healthful nutrients strengthen collagen production in the skin, which causes a reduction in wrinkles.
Here are some other interesting ways morning exercise can make you look better:
● Better Quality Sleep: Say goodbye to crow’s feet and the slouched demeanor associated with being sleep deprived. Studies have confirmed that having a consistent workout regime helps enhance sleep quality for a more restful slumber. This will alleviate the bags under your eyes and replenish your body’s energy reserves resulting in better posture.
â—Ź More Potent Sex Hormones: Exercise can improve your sex life. It tones your body which makes you look more youthful and feel more sexually desirable. As a result, your sex hormones become more potent and powerful as you feel more attractive.
4. It Gives You More Stamina

A morning exercise routine — consistently adhered to — will give you stamina and endurance throughout the remainder of your day. For this reason, if you typically have a busy schedule that requires a lot of mental (and/or physical) energy, then you would really benefit from integrating a morning workout regime into your lifestyle.
Regular exercise develops your resistance and staying power.
Just imagine having the energy to confidently run your day instead of having it run you. Feel the vitality of being able to keep up with the demands of your day. Revel in your additive sense of liveliness that allows you to stay focused and remain productive on all your pressing tasks.
There are many exercises that improve stamina and endurance. For this reason, you’ll need to do some research to find which ones work best for you.
However, here are a few ideas to get you started:
- Swimming
- Running/jogging
- High-intensity lifting
- Hybrid exercises
- Jumping jacks
- Mountain climbers
- Pushups
- Burpees
- Climbing stairs
Once you have a solid morning exercise routine that you’re comfortable with, it’s simply a matter of repetition and time before your stamina will begin to build. As such, be patient and stay persistent with the process.
5. It Provides Your Life With Structure

A morning exercise routine will add structure and organization to your life. Why? Because it’s an act of “togetherness”. It’s a high virtue habit that communicates a superior quality of personal
standards. And when this is the case, a new level of structure is introduced to accommodate this salutary activity.
Naturally, you’ll begin cleaning up other aspects of your routine so that they are on par with your new exercise ritual.
For example, a morning exercise routine will compel you to wake up earlier to adhere to your new habit. This will then inspire you to eat a healthier breakfast. As a result, you’ll have more energy to tidy up (make your bed, do your laundry, maybe take a cold shower, etc), which will then lead you to swap the morning news for an educational book — and the list goes on.
The simple act of an exercise routine before daybreak can transform your entire morning, which can enhance the quality of your day — and as a direct result — improve your overall life.
