Feel Like Quitting On Your Goals? Here Are 9 Proven Ways To Stay Motivated

Want to know the proven ways to stay motivated? Achieving your biggest goals is difficult—it takes time, effort, and consistency. The good news is that you will be WELL rewarded if you can hang in there and take the heat. So, is it worth it? That depends on how badly you want your goals. I say, of course, it’s worth it. Besides, what’s the alternative?

Give up on your hopes and desires to live a life that’s less than what you want and are capable of? That doesn’t sound too good for your confidence (or mental health). I think the answer here is clear. With that in mind, here are 9 proven ways to stay motivated toward your biggest goals.

1. Set Realistic Goals

If you’re broke and in debt, setting a goal to become a millionaire in six months is a little impractical. Of course, that’s an exaggerated and crude example, but you get my point. Your goals should be attainable and appropriate for your circumstances. Now, I’m not saying you shouldn’t set big goals.

I’m saying be realistic about time frames and ensure you’re setting achievable goals. Otherwise, you risk feeling overwhelmed by your audacious ambitions. This is one of the most potent ways to stay motivated on your path.

Break your big goals down into manageable tasks that you can incorporate into your everyday life. This simple “hack” will skyrocket your motivation levels.

2. Use Confidence Builders

What’s a confidence builder? It’s a smaller, easier, and more attainable goal aligned with your bigger goals. It builds your confidence to go after those more audacious ambitions by giving you a taste of success. For example, before running a marathon, I ran a half marathon; before writing a book, I started a blog; you get the idea.

Confidence builders are mini goals that you set out to accomplish. And they’re one of the best ways to stay motivated on your path toward your loftier aims.

3. Continual Review

This step is critical. You have to saturate your mind with your goals thoroughly. It’s not enough to say you want something and then do business as usual. Your goals require more of you than that. Write it down, develop a concrete plan, review your aims daily, and eliminate potential distractions. This process firmly ingrains your ambitions within your consciousness.

So, regardless of how busy life gets, try to find some quiet time each day to review your ambitions. The more you think about your goal—whatever it happens to be—the more you’ll naturally move towards it.

4. Build a Supportive Network

You need a supportive network if you have big ambitions for your life. People who share similar views regarding achievement and success will stand by you and support your aspirations. People who don’t share the same drive and motivation as you will criticize and berate your lofty aims. Which type of social group would you prefer to have?

If you’re reading this (or have any sense), you’ll undoubtedly choose the former. A strong network of quality people strengthens you emotionally and psychologically. Filling up those life quadrants is one of the most powerful ways to stay motivated in life.

5. Celebrate Your Successes

I want you to see every one of your achievements as stepping stones to greater achievements. When you adopt this mindset, you’ll recognize the importance of celebrating these wins, regardless of how modest they are. They are the building blocks you use to construct your foundation of success. For this reason, you need to honor every victory.

This does not mean you need to book a vacation to Dubai because you woke up at 5:30 AM to work on your side hustle. It simply means you acknowledge your efforts and give yourself the respect you deserve for following through on them.

6. Find Accountability

Do you have someone in your life to hold you to your word? Accountability can be a game-changer. For this reason, consider finding someone you trust and respect (and vice versa) who can serve as your accountability partner. This simple setup can increase your motivation, discipline, and work ethic. As a result, it’s worth having this type of person.

Here are some qualities you should for in an accountability partner:

  • Has their own goals they’re working toward
  • Motivated and inspirational
  • Respectful and compassionate
  • Not going to let you slip

They are a sounding board, confidant, and invaluable resource that can help you stay on track. So, do yourself a favor and find an accountability partner—it will make all the difference.

7. Adapt to Setbacks and Failure

Life is going to knock you down. It happens to us all at some point. Are you flexible in your plans and strategy so you can adapt to the inevitable obstacles? Flexibility is one of the most powerful ways to stay motivated, as it allows you to adapt to setbacks and remain resilient. How do you develop flexibility? Simple: Keep a positive mindset.

This may seem innocuous, but it’s actually critical to maintain optimism during trying times. Your attitude is essential for bouncing back. It gives you intrinsic motivation, and that can often be the difference between achieving your goals and not.

8. Track Your Progress

Making progress is one of the most powerful ways to stay motivated. Few things are more satisfying than seeing how much ground you’ve covered through your daily tasks. As Tony Robbins says, “Progress equals happiness.” The more progress you make, the more driven you’ll become. Here are a few simple tactics to monitor your progress:

  • Make a spreadsheet
  • Write in a journal
  • Create a vision board
  • Document milestones in a blog

Find a way to track your progress. It will keep you inspired to continue working toward your goals.

9. Push Through Self-Doubt

If you’re anything like me (aka, you’re a normal human being), you’ll experience self-doubt with your goals from time to time. That’s fine. But what’s not fine is failing to take action because of those feelings of self-doubt. Here’s the deal: The world’s most successful people doubt themselves all the time. But you know what these people do? They move forward anyway.

You can’t let your emotions dictate whether you’ll act on your goals. If you do, you’ll never make meaningful progress toward them. So, you have to push through. But here’s where it gets interesting: The more you push through self-doubt, the more you’ll experience this incredible force called momentum.

Conclusion

There are many ways to stay motivated toward your goals. Understanding the various methods gives you a range of tactics to fall back on when you feel your drive slipping away. As a result, there’s no longer any excuse for you to show up and make progress toward your ambitions—regardless of how big they are or how long it will take to accomplish them.
